The beaches of the Dominican  Republic are the number one attraction and top of the list for almost all tourists and expats that come to visit, the allure of the crystal clear warm waters may even convince you to stay!
365 days a year, the beach is always open.
The pristine beaches are always walkable, some for miles of uninterrupted beauty, from white sands to golden candy carmel, the shores of the island are only enhanced by sunrises and sunsets. As you travel the island, you will find beach towns that are welcoming and inviting, you can lounge in a comfy chair while being catered to, or you can find your own private beach all to yourself.  There are many hideaway beaches in the Dominican Republic, with untamed natural breathtaking beauty.  The South Coast of the island has many public beaches as well as resorts that will share some sand with you, and it never seems to be crowded even in high season.
Here are a few of the beautiful beaches of the north east coast.

Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo Beaches
Stunning sandy beaches that stretch for miles and sparkling blue waters can be found just a short drive from Santo Domingo. These beaches are located in the nearby towns of Boca Chica (30 minutes by car) and Juan Dolio (45 minutes).
The beach areas are close enough for a fun and easy day trip. However, many travelers decide to stay a few days in the city and a few days at the beach. Boca Chica and Juan Dolio both have relaxing all-inclusive resorts and many beachfront restaurants.

Juan Dolio

Juan Dolio, Santo Domingo Beaches
Juan Dolio lies about 45 minutes east of the capital. It has a splendid beach that stretches for miles. The water is shallow and the waves are usually gentle. The town has two main sections: Old Juan Dolio and New Juan Dolio. Old Juan Dolio has a few beachfront restaurants, easy access to the beach and small hotels. New Juan Dolio contains recently developed beachfront condos as well as restaurants and cafes. The all-inclusive resorts are scattered all along the coast. Juan Dolio Beach is one of the best beaches on the Caribbean side and arguably is considered the best beach for people to visit from Santo Domingo. Juan Dolio Beach is a very family-friendly beach, but by no means a boring beach. This beach is located directly on the Caribbean and not in a lagoon like Boca Chica, and, because of this, it will give you the great Caribbean feel. Juan Dolio is divided into two sections. I call them, old Juan Dolio and new Juan Dolio. With both these sections you are guaranteed to find a part of the beach that calls your name and is an excellent choice for a day or half day trip to the beach. Old Juan Dolio
Juan Dolio Octupus Bay Restaurant-1For a day trip you want to spend your time in old Juan Dolio where there is wonderful partial cove adjoining a long, clean white sand beach and blue water. You can walk up and down this beach for miles and you won’t have a problem finding a piece of the beach to call your own for the day.

Playa Najayo

Playa Najayo is located about 25 miles west of the center of Santo Domingo. Playa Najayo is just off the beaten path and is not a typical tourist destination – just one of the many reasons why I enjoy visiting this beach. The drive takes about 1 hour because the winding roads on the way to the beach.
Playa Najayo has rustic Caribbean charm. There are only a few permanent buildings and the others are make-shift wooden buildings. The beach is located on a cove and is bordered by bluffs that make for very scenic views.
This beach is well worth going to if you are looking to enjoy a more rustic Caribbean beach experience. The people are friendly, it is rarely over-crowded, there is great food and drink, and very few if any tourists. If you want a little more out of your beach day or a more traditional tourist beach, you may want to think about going to Juan Dolio or Boca Chica.

Boca Chica

Boca Chica, Santo Domingo Beaches
Located just 25 minutes from Santo Domingo, Boca Chica has long been a favorite weekend spot for people who live in the capital. The water at this beach is a shallow, wave-less lagoon protected by a large coral reef. There are also many beachfront restaurants that serve lunch and dinner. Boca Chica is very animated, particularly in the evenings. Boca Chica Beach -Santo Domingo’s Beach

Boca Chica Beach is one of the quickest and easiest beaches to get to from Santo Domingo. Boca Chica Beach is the preferred weekend getaway location for many Dominicans living in the Capitol, taking only about 35 to 45 minutes (accounting for traffic) from Santo Domingo. The beach at Boca Chica is protected by a lagoon that makes for calm waters and you can walk out far without much change in the depth of the water.
Boca Chica is not the place to go if you are looking for a pristine and tranquil Caribbean beach. This is a very active beach with many people – both locals and foreigners. There are many restaurants, bars, hotels, and souvenir shops/huts, up and down the beach.
Boca Chica Beach is a great place to go if you want to spend your day or night at a beach where you can either be part of the party scene or enjoy one of the many nice restaurants which have beach/water access.

La Playa De Guayacanes

Guayacanes beach is located just west of Juan Dolio. It offers plenty of palm trees for relaxing in the shade. This beach is quiet during the week and busy on weekends and holidays. The waters are shallow and usually calm. Guayacanes Beach

Guayacanes beach is a long beach that is perfect for easy walking. The #1 attraction of Guayacanes beach is it is off the beaten path. When beaches like Boca Chica and Juan Dolio are bustling with people, but what you want is a little more laid-back time at the beach, then perhaps Guayancanes is the beach for you. With so much beach and so few people this beach allows you to find a spot on the white sandy beach just for your You can also choose to stay in the center of the beach next the restaurants and bars.

Located between Boca Chica and Juan Dolio this is a smaller beach with not as many amenities, but still there will be places to eat and drink, and places to rent beach chairs and umbrellas. Guayacanes Beach will not have very many travelers and is primarily visited by locals. Depending on what you are looking for, this can either be a positive or a negative.

The benefit of this smaller off-the-beaten-path beach is there will not be as many panhandlers or people trying to sell you stuff as you would see in Boca Chica. The food and drinks are as good as other beaches, but less expensive than at Boca Chica and Juan Dolio.
